Infrared camera technology can be a useful non-invasive inspection tool. Infrared camera measures the surface temperatures of building materials. Anomalies in surface temperatures, which are defined by abnormal heating or cooling, can be indicative of moisture leaks, missing or poorly installed insulation, hot electrical circuits and connections and vermin or insect infestation.

Infrared cameras are not X-Ray machines. Infrared cameras do not see through building materials or through water. Infrared cameras only show surface temperatures. With the proper training and with knowledge of building materials and techniques the anomalies in surface temperatures can reveal unseen moisture, missing or improperly installed insulation, insect and rodent infestation and electrical issues.
